| PEI (Polyetherimide), commercially known as ULTEM, is an amorphous, high-performance thermoplastic available in semi-transparent amber or black sheets and rods. It is renowned for its exceptional balance of high mechanical strength, rigidity, and long-term heat resistance, with a continuous service temperature of around 190°C. A key advantage is its inherent flame retardancy without additives, achieving a UL94 V-0 rating with low smoke emission. PEI also exhibits good electrical insulation properties, high dimensional stability, and resistance to a wide range of chemicals and hydrolysis. These properties make it a premier metal-replacement material in demanding sectors like aerospace, automotive, medical, and food processing, where performance under thermal and mechanical stress is critical. |
